Hello everyone, it was suggested to me to start a thread about my set up, so here goes.

I would like to first show the stand build up and then go from there, if that is ok. Here we go- From the start. 1 1/2" butcher block oak and 3/4" montana pine- a weeks worth of work.

Where the tank was originally going to go- OPPS, nope. Just didn't look right. DAMN!

Now we are finally getting up to speed- true progress!

Finally, ready to go.

40 Gallon Setup for $500.00

So here is the story. My Girl-friend says her sisters boyfriend wants to get rid of his 20 gallon tank and wants to know if we want the coral that is in it. Well at that moment all I had was a little 6 gallon nano he said we can take anything we want, So I go look at what he's got. While talking to him I discover that he just wants to get out of the hobby. So I said well what are you gonna do with the rest of the stuff? To which he replies Sell it on ebay, you all know what my next question was.

So I offered him $300.00 for the lot, and told him I needed at least 2 days, he said ok but he wanted it gone. So I ran out got a 40 gallon tank (oh yeah cause he had reduced a 50 to a 20 so there was a bunch of stuff in tubs, then just decided the hell with it) and a bunch of lumber to build a stand.

got it set up got water in it and then transferred everything in a day, I know big risk but he was gonna toss it all out the door. Its been a full 24hours now and so far so good, Keeping a close eye on all levels. The following picture should say the rest.

I still havn,t recieved my new lights yet so the broken ones are whats lighting it now. They should be here on the 12th so i'm so excited. Here are some updated pics of the tank though. Have added around 15-20 lbs rock, 3 emerald crabs, 4 Electric blue Hermits, and 10 turbo snails. Pics arent the best but good for now till I polish up my aquarium photography skills.

Its coming along

Its been 4 to 5 months up and running now. Had A few equipment problems but doing great over all. Not much livestock loss. Everyone is happy and getting along great with no fighting at all.

I lost one clam (think his foot was damaged from store) a gobie & pistol shrimp pair (gobie just disappeared and never found pistol shrimp from day one) a Bengali Cardinal (found eaten not sure why he was healthy and active for over two weeks) and a Sand Sifter Star (all but one leg chewed off not sure what got him) I put him in my Solana he may still be alive I am not sure. Also lost a few cleanup crew members they just disappeared or are still in there somewhere?

Guess I am not doing too bad for a X fresh water guy and newly converted salt water newbie.

Current Survivors

Pair of Gold Striped Maroon Clowns going on 3 months

Tomato Clown going on 4 months

Christmas Wrasse going on two months

Fairy Wrasse going on two months

Fire shrimp Going on two months

Maxima Clam going on three months

Powder Blue Tang going on a month

Red Star going on 3 months-I named him Stoner as he likes to sit on ledges and droop over like he is blitzed.

I have no Coral yet I am waiting for tank to mature. My Coraline is growing and spreading. Still some brown algae and green algae breakouts now and then but not too bad and it seems to be getting better every day.

I am having a few problems, my nitrate is high 25,my magnesium is low and my PH is low 8.0 not awfully bad but not right yet. Water changes and additives!

Took some pics to share with other forum members and thanks to Vivid and especially Jack for helping a newbie like me out every now and then.

My Solana has

3 Pepermint shrimp going on two months

Emerald Crab going on 4 months

Three Striped Damsel going on 4 months

Yellow Belly Damsel going on 4 months

Blue Devil Damsel going on 4 months

Yellow Tang going on 3 months (was in main tank till I got Powder Blue he was being nasty too the PBT).

All doing great and funny but the trouble makers from the main tank all get allong great. My Solana was a Quarantine but its now where all the bad fish go from my main tank. Probly will just make it another reef tank, its half way there already and is equipped to do it. I can always buy an el-cheapo 10 or 20 gallon for a quarantine when and if needed. I am trying to keep my main tank a very calm and peaceful place for all it residents so its nice having that second tank available for the troublemakers. Sometimes a fish is just an A-Hole!

My tank set back up!!

I finally got my tank setup now that I bought a bigger house. Here is the tank setup placed in to a wall in the living room. Not quit finished with the construction, just some paint left to do. Since these photos were taken some live rock has been added and new lights are ordered. I will post new pics when the lights come in.

Just brought in some new kids on the block.... I mean reef. tried to get a gold Maroon Pair but Momma didn't survive the transport.. anyway, the male and Rose bubble tip seem to be doing just fine for their first week in the tank.

Ok so you asked for it you got it. I will post progress pictures here. Now for a little while there may not be much in the way a fish related stuff but I think the end product is gonna be Spectacular. So here is the goal the tank will go on the wall with the two windows it will be completely incased with cabniets and there will be an entertainment center incorperated into it. When not viewing the tank there will be a screen that rolls down from the cieling right in front of the tank and a projector from the cieling. The tank will sit between the two windows which will be filled in with some plumbing and electrical and vents put in. I am kicking around the Idea of putting one of those window a/c units in to blow cool are over the tank durring the summer when it gets quite hot here. Well thats enough babble for now...... Enjoy

Oh yeah First stage was Sand blasting the walls below ground level so I could reseal them since I found out in the last rains that the walls seep.
